Schomp Subaru Provides Care Kits to People Experiencing Homelessness
Schomp Subaru doesn’t just talk the talk…it walks the walk. That’s why in late June our employee volunteers assembled 1,200 “Community Care Kits” and delivered them to homeless shelters and service providers to be distributed to people experiencing homelessness.
Schomp Subaru General Manager TJ Joyce said putting together the kits, “Allowed us to get back out in the community and show the initiative of Subaru Loves to Care, show something that’s very passionate for the Schomp family of dealers and especially Schomp Subaru.”
The Subaru Love Promise is the brand’s “vision to show love and respect to all people.” Community service has long been an important part of Subaru’s mission to show, “We’re more than a car company®.
Schomp Subaru employee volunteers gathered on June 21st at the dealership to pack water-resistant waist packs with crew socks, sunscreen, lip balm, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, a toothbrush and toothpaste, comb, lotion and sanitary wipes. On June 28th the packed Community Care Kits were loaded into cars and distributed to centers throughout Aurora that serve people in need, including The St. Francis Center and Aurora Warms the Night.
Rosa, who works for Aurora Warms the Night said the kits would go to people at the organization’s shower trailers and safe parking spots, “basically anyone looking for simple hygiene kits just to live their day to day lives as a simple human need.”
“Due to COVID, more people are on the streets than ever before, and again the community spoke up and told us this is where we could have the greatest impact,” Joyce said. Read more about Schomp Subaru’s Community Care Kit effort, and view a short video.
