SCHOMP SUBARU ATHLETIC ALLIANCE

In collaboration with Subaru of America and dealers across the country, Schomp Subaru is proud to continue our work in spreading the Love Promise throughout the Aurora and surrounding communities. This fall, as part of the Subaru Loves Learning campaign, we’ve teamed up with youth from Village Exchange Center (VEC) to help fulfill their dream of starting their own soccer club.

We’re dedicated to help develop an after school program where youth will learn the importance of teamwork and develop leadership skills while learning the game of soccer. Many of the VEC kids grew up kicking around a soccer ball, some want to grow up to be professional soccer players like their idols, and others are looking forward to the sense of belonging to an established team.

Partnering with the Colorado Soccer Foundation, Soccer City, the City of Aurora, and Capelli Sport, the Schomp Subaru Athletics Alliance team is busy planning, purchasing, and designing.

Team Workshop: June 16

We met with some of the kids joining the team for a creative workshop where they learned about color theory, graphic design, and creative brainstorming. Collectively, they shared ideas and input on their team colors, jersey design, team name, and logo concepts. Our designers are now working to present the team with a choice of team names and logos created around their ideas.

Meet the Coach: July 7

With the help of the Colorado Soccer Foundation, the team will meet 2-4 times/month for practices, scrimmages, drills with special guest coaches, and tournaments. They kicked off their first practice with the team’s coach, Nelson Pinto – Founder and Director at the Colorado International Soccer Academy and former Chilean professional player – at the newly opened Soccer City in Aurora. In Nelson’s words, “Futbol is more than a beautiful game. It serves as a platform for physical, mental, and social development, a way for individual empowerment, and a vehicle through which young people can connect with their communities. By combining my passion for the game with my professional skills, I strive to influence the lives of young people in a positive way that prepares them to add value and leadership to our communities, beyond their athletic accomplishments.”

Practice + Community BBQ: July 28

The team’s second practice will invite their parents, siblings, friends, and community members to join them for a post-practice meal. It’ll be a time to bask in the excitement of their new soccer club and share what they’ve learned. Language is too often a barrier for the Village Exchange Center community and we believe that soccer, and a good meal, can be that universal language.

Gear up! August 7

The Beasts will make their competitive debut the weekend for their first scrimmage; prior, the team will gather for gear pick up where they’ll see their new uniform and receive their cleats!

Schomp Subaru Athletic Alliance Inaugural Event: August 16

Stay tuned for the details! Our celebratory event will include the team’s first official soccer match with pre and post-game activities. Anyone is invited, come show your support!

Subaru Loves Learning

We believe in being a positive force in something bigger. And it all starts right here in our community. Not just by our donations, but by our actions. That’s why we stay true to our Love Promise Community Commitment by partnering with a wide variety of community nonprofits and charities. Every year, we join hands with our owners in the “Share the Love” event, giving back to the community that’s given so much to us. So, every day, we strive to ensure our love is felt not just by our customers, but by all in our community. We do this because we feel it is the right thing to do. We are proud to participate in the Love Promise Community Commitment. We’re grateful, not only to be a part of our community, but to serve and support the causes and passions that are closest to our hearts, right here in our neighborhood. All of the organizations we support have one thing in common: the unwavering dedication to improve the world and the lives of its people. During the Subaru Loves Learning Event, it’s our goal to make the pursuit of knowledge available to as many minds as possible.

Village Exchange Center

Village Exchange Center (VEC) began in 2016 as a community concept that would be responsive to and serve its diversifying neighborhood and the City of Aurora, CO. Aurora, a city of more than 20% immigrants and refugees, is among an increasing number of cities across the U.S. coping with the challenges of welcoming a growing number of immigrant and refugee communities. VEC emerged as a way to alleviate these challenges and address the communities changing needs. Since its inception, VEC has become an anchor in the community for support and empowerment. They continue to operate their facility and programming while developing connections with the surrounding communities, the majority of whom are foreign-born.

Colorado Soccer Foundation

The Colorado Soccer Foundation is the work of many people, over the course of nearly a decade, serving thousands of kids across Colorado with soccer programming. What began in 2012 with a group of soccer professionals, the Colorado Rapids Youth Soccer Club, and an after school program grew to over 30 partnering schools and flourishing partnerships with the U.S. Soccer Foundation and Colorado Health Foundation. Their mission: To make the game of soccer accessible to all kids who want to play.

Soccer City, Aurora

The Colorado Soccer Foundation received support for the construction of Soccer City Aurora, which opened mid June 2021 as an outdoor soccer haven designed for the Colorado soccer community. With over 72,000 square feet of customizable playing space and accessible membership fees, Soccer City is a world-class facility that serves as both a community hub and the HQs of the Colorado Soccer Foundation.
